Acne Scars – Cause, Prevention And Treatment
There are two types of skin problems caused by acne that can be recognized as acne scars, one is the red pigmentation that appears after acne has healed. These contrary to popular belief, are not scars, rather, these are post-inflammatory lesions which occurs as the acne heals, and these can be present for up to 6-12 months. If however the pigmentation that you see lasts longer than the said period, you may be facing acne scars.
Acne scars come from connective tissue that the body uses to repair damage done to a certain area. Together with antibodies and white blood cells, they work together to heal the wound. After the healing process, you are left with a scar.
Acne scars can develop as long as acne is present, so one good form of prevention is actually preventing acne. However, Acne scars can also be prevented even with the presence of acne. This is done by facilitating the healing of the acne, the faster it heals, the shallower the acne scar will be, making it easier to treat, or may need no treatment at all.
There are two dermatologically tested ways to facilitate the healing of acne, one is the use of Tretinoin, it’s a form of vitamin A, which speeds up the skin’s healing and renovation process shortening the inflammation period, thus preventing Acne scars.
The other treatment used by most dermatologists for Acne scar prevention is the use of Aplpha-Hydroxy Acids of AHA’s and Beta-Hydroxy Acids or BHA’s. These help the skins remodeling process, with the right concentration and proper application; these can also prevent acne scars.
Without the complicated chemicals and difficult dermatological treatments, you can also help prevent acne scars by treating your skin righteously. Avoid sun exposure, this can cause even more skin damage and may hamper the healing process of your skin. Wear sunscreen that has SPF 15 or higher. Picking at scabs never helped either. Never pick on acne as it heals; it interferes with the healing process and might worsen the resulting acne scar.
Of course, not even the most rigorous person can prevent acne scar, with the stress of everyday life, facial and other skin problems are really hard to avoid, there are however treatments available for acne scars, here are some of them.
Dermal Fillers Collagen or other fillers are injected into the acne scar to raise is just a bit, so that it will be the same level as your skin, these treatments aren’t permanent though. They mostly last 3-6 months and you’ll need additional injections after that.
Punch Excision This method is effective for some types of scars. It includes the surgical tool that matches the size of the scar; it can be compared to a cookie dough cutter. This tool cuts the scar out and the remaining wound is then sewed back together. The resulting scar will be unnoticeable, but if it is, it’ll be easier for laser resurfacing to treat it. Other types of this treatment include the use of skin grafts.
Laser Resurfacing Laser resurfacing is a very popular and fast treatment for acne scars. Laser resurfacing basically works by burning a measure upper layer of the skin, and then letting it heal, leaving a newer looking skin. However, care must be taken after the procedure; the correct post operative procedure determines the success of the operation

Why do all the pretty girls in every high school and College have such acne-free skin? What is the secret?
I have seen year after year at my high school and in all the magazines and movies. These girls have flawless skin! I know that I don’t have the best skin. But I try everything! Neutrogena skin products, Clean and Clear. . .you name it! I’ve tried it! I also have gone to a skin doctor and gotten some super expensive acne medications. NOTHING works! I wash my face in the shower everyday, I don’t think I’m stressed.
I’m getting married soon and I want to be acne-free for my wedding!
Don’t tell me that Make-up helps, tried it. I just hate the feel of gobs of make-up on my skin! PLEASE! HELP! If you know a good way please tell me!!
Free Acne Home Remedies – Four That you Can Start Using Today!
Most everyone suffers from some form of acne while growing up. Some individuals may have it more on a more visible area, such as their face or neck, while others may have it on their back or buttocks. I’ve had my own share of problems with facial acne, mostly just the occasional big zit that looked like a third eye, hurt like crazy and lasted for days. These were especially wonderful when there was some type of social event coming up. You feel cursed.
There are some homemade recipes for acne cures that work very well. I would always be willing to try a few free acne home remedies before spending the money to see a dermatologist and then paying for a prescription.
Here are a few free acne home remedies that you can try before you have to see the doctor.
#1. Oatmeal facials – These are known to be helpful for some people. Simply make a “mask” and apply it to the problem area a couple times per week. Only use warm water, not hot, and let the mask dry on your covered area until it completly dries before washing it off. You can also use dried (damp) oatmeal to wash your face with as this will help you to clean out your pores.
#2. Change your diet – I realize that this is easier said than done, especially as a teenager, but it will help you a lot. A good rule of thumb is to avoid anything that comes in a bag or wrapper. This means pretty much anything processed has got to go. You’ll be amazed at how much better you feel both physically and mentally if you stick with a plan of only eating healthy foods for 3-4 weeks. Fresh fruits and vegetables, lean meats and no garbage.
#3. Get plenty of exercise – You probably think that you’re reading a weight loss article, right? Well, if you need to lose some then here’s a chance to knock out two birds with one stone. I’m not talking about getting a “little” exercise, but about starting regular workouts that will build muscle, get rid of poisonous toxins that have built up in your body and also help to build your self esteem. Don’t dabble in it. Dive in and do it regularly until you break a really good sweat! You’ll be amazed at the benefits of exercise not only for your acne, but for the rest of “you” too.
#4. Green Tea – You may have heard this before. Green tea is becoming more and more popular and is now being recognized as an excellent antioxident. This stuff works like a charm for helping to detox your body. Put the soda pop down and make this your beverage of choice. Some think that it’s great without sugar. I personally like my tea any way. Hot, cold, with or without sugar, but I’ve found that it quenches my thirst much better if I drink it without sugar. I do recommend that you moderate your sugar intake. Try honey, another fantastic antoxidant, instead.
There are other free acne home remedies that you may find helpful. Make certain to see your doctor before trying anything too extravagant or if your acne becomes worse. Good luck to you!

Acne Skin Care Products and Treatments
We can classify skin care products for acne into 3 broad categories:
* Drugstore or Internet: Preventative medication
* Over-the-Counter: Treatments for conditions that do not require prescription
* Prescription: Issued for specialized medication from a doctor etc.
Those that fall into the preventative category are based around general skin conditioning to help stop acne from forming; this sector deals with skin creams, lotions and cleansers that can help stop the problem. This is a market where many people use this type of product every day to condition their skin; many use these products to protect their skin from the environment even if they do not have the acne condition. Some of these products are designed to act like an acne skin care product and act against the causes of this complaint; they ensure the facial pores (and other areas) remain free of oil. Excess oil needs to be stopped from clogging the pores as this oil make it easier for bacteria to grow, exacerbating the condition.
Exfoliation skin peels have proved quite effective as a skin care treatment and at controlling the problem; these can be bought easily over the counter or on the internet. Dead skin cells and other atmospheric pollutants are removed cleaning the pores which reduce the chance of any bacterial growth. The growth of the skin care market has allowed even more specialized acne skin care products to be available without the need to visit the doctor. These formulations contain the chemical benzoyl peroxide and the naturally occurring salicylic acid; these ingredients are used to remove the additional oil in the pores of the skin. Therefore, there are a variety of very decent Toners And Cleansers For Acne readily available to buy off the shelf.
It is often a good idea to start with a product that has lower concentration of benzoyl peroxide (e.g. 5 percent) to see how the skin responds; should a reaction occur, products containing alpha hydroxy acid are generally safer. It might just be a case of trial and error to find an acne skin care product that works; if finding something that works is proving difficult, your dermatologist should be able to help. On-prescription treatments are prescribed by a dermatologist and can include ointments that can be applied on the affected area or oral antibiotics or just any topical ointment.Under certain circumstances, having the infected material removed from the pores under a local anesthetic may be suggested by your dermatologist; specialists never recommend the sufferer tries this themselves as it can cause permanent skin damage.
An alternative that has been shown to work well is hormone therapy; this type of skin care treatment has been very effective in many cases. Finally, if you would like a more expensive, but highly reviewed treatment, you may want to opt for Acne Laser Surgery. This should be investigated before you commit to it and you must certainly find a reputable company with a good name first.Tackling and stopping acne is not the problem it once was and if treated properly, permanently marked skin does not have to occur.
